Andre tha Giant vs J.D. Elquist

I usually try not to cosign and reproduce other ppls content but I feel the breakdown right here… there are many similarities to my personal sense of style. the progression and style arent the same but the conclusion is still valid, getting to a place where you are comfortable with being ur self, the transition from trendy to trendsetter. LEAPing buildings….

I get dressed and i consistently think of a quote, i think by kanye, “sometimes i make questionable fashion decisions, but you cant say im not dressing like myself.” I dunno if kanye said it, but you can hate on what i have on if you would like but u kno im dressed like myself.

The Evolution of J.Elquist

Costume consumed my childhood. It was a chance for me to be, who ever it was I wanted. Hulk Hogan and the greats of the WWF, Batman and Robin, Dick Tracy, and Peter Pan. If it couldn’t be bought my mom would make it. In costume nothing was impossible and it disguised me from my reality. In disguise I saw more and learned more than any child should. When people ask me what got me interested in style, I say it just came. It actuality it was wanting something better. Still to this day that remains true. I dress for the life I want to live, and in due time, my dress will create the life I live.
4th grade was what taught me fashion, as always what you wear depicts what you do. I played ball. Basketball was my life. I had more Jordan’s than I knew what to do with. I had the jerseys of every major NBA star in the late 90’s. When Dennis Rodman was big I wore the worms and had the bull’s logo shaved in the back of my head. Let’s just say I have always stood out of the crowd. From basketball, hip-hop mainstream was an easy transition. I took the album “Shaq-Fu” and added FUBU. I was For Us By Us, I wore the jeans, the jersey, the chain, the ring, and the hat. Instead of J’s I wore Lugz. It was about Dre and Marshall, Snoop, and Bone Thugs. Before I could blink it was Chronic 2001.
I hung my jersey up for good and soon came a stampede of moose. Abercrombie and Fitch was my niche. The tattered jeans and pink polo to the plaid shirts and obscene graphic tee, I wore it all. I wore so much Abercrombie it soon became my job. Both the job and the look died when 7 for all Mankind was on the rise. RVCA, OBEY, 7’s , and Rainbows. Sophistication in my eyes, ready for the gritty of the city.
San Francisco ladies and gentleman. It is this beautiful city that is responsible for my evolution from trendy to trendsetter. Once I realized I could be exactly who I wanted to be. I skated and tore jeans, wore a croc and khakis, mod plaids to Ralph Lauren. As with it all even my days of Polo are soon to pass. Today I am hopeful; tomorrow I am gone. What I have learned most on my journey for personal style. Is it’s not about what you are wearing, as much as it is how you are wearing it. Confidence is the difference. Now my fashions don’t have to come and go, I am not in fashion, for fashion and style are one in their own. It is style that I have gained and style is what we aim for. The evolution of J.Elquist.
