Fun x Innovation = Results

When you bring an alternative perspective to a common issue, true innovation is possible. Why not do the same with fun and exercise?

Mad Men x Brooks Brothers

Brooks Brothers is coming out with a hand-finished limited edition suit in the style of Mad Men‘s Don Draper. He brings impeccable style and fit to the set. In all honest, a suit is a suit, but if you want to make it something special you gotta have the fit. A well fitting suit could have cost you 6$ at the salvation army but if it fits it fits. You take that, add a well tied knot, a square and maybe some braces and you are really doing something.

You can’t drink Patio diet cola anymore and you probably shouldn’t smoke in your office, but you can still live the “Mad Men” lifestyle by dressing in a new Brooks Brothers suit that is officially endorsed by that hit AMC drama. On Wednesday, Brooks Brothers announced that it would begin selling a limited-edition “Mad Men” suit, designed with the help of the show’s costume designer, Janie Bryant, and inspired by the tailoring favored by Don Draper and Roger Sterling. In a news release, Brooks Brothers said that the hand-finished, American-made suit is made from gray sharkskin fabric and its two-button jacket features narrow lapels, diagonal pockets and side vents. The suit will be on sale from Oct. 19 through Nov. 8 (the date of the “Mad Men” season finale, by the way) and retails for $998 — perfect for those late-night drives when you might run into your daughter’s grade-school teacher.

This is truly an amazing story (Gizmodo, TED) . One of those that you hear about and then feel like your life is unfulfilling and worthless. This kid made a windmill out household items, a bicycle and a tractor motor. Ridiculous. I cannot explain the story any better than William. Just watch for yourself.

I am not sure where I stand on all this but Whoopi puts a good deal of the debate out there. Plus you get the comical relief of hasselback crying. Matt must be doing bad, his wife is an idiot and his team is awful. Lets go 9ers.

On a side note ill throw chris rocks opinion in there…

I have to admit I love RL. If they made a piece of shit on a necklace, I would prolly rock it. But thats neither here nor there. Its always nice for us regular folks to catch a runway show, imo. Plus, Im feeling the land of leatherheads 1920′s look and the throwback music they had in the background… “you kept me up all night with your coke and gin”. I have to say there is a noticeable lack of Negros and coloreds (using the term of the time for the look) and it just makes you wonder. I understand it would be a little out of place, i assume, to have the master’s clothes on the maid but still, us octoroons have shown Ralphie much love over the years n I think we should get a couple more runway models. Ultimately, what it comes down to is an exact conversation I was having with Gabe the Great and Calvin over at BKcSF this summer abt how Brooklyn Circus attempts to provide a FUBU-esque alternative to the RL aesthetic. Support the brand with the cause while making stabs a the look you want.

Always one LEAP ahead

ReBlog: Selvedge Denim

1 Oct

From the new and improved j.elquist blog, always informative, always knowledgeable.

selvadge

Selvedge denim is hot right now. One question, what the hell is the hype about? Selvedge denim is a type of denim that forms a clean natural edge that does not unravel. As you can see from the white edge on the denim seam above. It is created on an old style shuttle loom which weaves denim with one continuous cross thread through the length of the bolt. Allowing the thread to loop back at the end which creates the self-edge. Selvedge denim is desirable because the edge does not fray like denim who’s edge is overlocked. Thus making better quality denim that will maintain its shape over time.
