Netherlands Vs Cameroon

9 Jun

This is my first game of the World Cup. I can believe that I am actually going. I was a player since the age of 8. As my first love, football has always captured my eyes and my heart.

But of course that is not why I am posting, its for good advertising of course. haha. In light of the Dutch playing “Netherlands-based advertising school Willem de Kooning Academie created this t-shirt for the Dutch Football Federation right in time for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. When your favorite team scores, pull the shirt over your head to reveal one of your favorite players screaming with joy. Could you imagine if everyone in the stadium did this in unison? Awesome!” (via Reflection of Me)

I just want my Ribery. :)

Kids.

11 Mar

I love what RL does for kids, not to mention those little mixed models. Makes me want to have some of my own, but in due time of course. My question is how do you balance having your kids look fresh and fashionable, while also having them be humble and truly appreciate the clothes that they do have. This question is partially addressed in the Sewn for the Soul piece done by Street Etiquette. I imagine that at some point you have to set up a rewards system for your kids. Or do you feel like kids will inherent the work ethic of the parents, if the parents are able to spend a sufficient amount of time with them. Thoughts?

Sewn From The Soul

Jkissi and Trav always hold it down over at StreetEtiquette. The style is impeccable but they are now taking it to the next level conceptually. I spend a good deal of time with C+ spinning wheels on style and its social implications, how dressing like a gentleman links with acting like one, and how to translate style to the next generation without leaving a bourgeois taste in your mouth. Sewn From the Soul is wrapped in the answer. The key to the translation of the style message lies in history, and knowing your own. Though moving higher and higher in the ranks of fashion moves you towards a more sartorial, but also, white affluent and European place, knowing that so many powerful people that look just like you have used these same stylistic choices, and others, to convey their message before you puts you back in the driver seat. This is the key to fighting the choking paradigm, using their things with our swag to level the playing field. Hats off to Street Etiquette and everyone involved, hopefully I will be able to pick their brains one day, one day soon.

Aaron Jennings

This is a month in the making at least but I have been caught up in finals and what not. But honest, every once in a while you meet someone that sparks that critical limit of interest, someone you know is on a path to make serious moves. Thats how it went with Aaron. I was down in lalaLand at a party at this sneaker boutique El Mercado and I ran into him. As it turns out, he was bruhs with one of my boys over at the BKcircus, young ChaseMane.

I asked him to break down his perspective in three sentences. With some poetic license, and a little more than three, he said this:

“I am a poet- I try to tell the truth about the human condition, the truth as I see it. Furthermore, my goal is to shed light on the world in an attempt to bring the human race out of darkness. I create art for a higher power, and I am to be used as a vessel- a mere shell for God to use for a greater purpose. It is my hope that through my art I will touch someone, and in turn their light will shine brighter.”

Great Blog if ur a New England prep swag fan like myself. They have gems on a consistent basis like the woman above. Great quote, but I have to say, how much was Einstein pulling though? I mean really. We all seen him, hes not exactly a Derek Jeter Channing Tatum type….

For the Beat Generation, there were only two places to live: New York’s Greenwich Village and San Francisco’s North Beach.

North Beach has been an old stomping ground of mine since my early twenties. I recently paid a visit to the neighborhood after years of exile in Los Angeles.

Broadway is home to San Francisco’s famous strip clubs, such as The Condor Club, where Carol Doda first danced topless in 1964. It’s also where you’ll find famous Beat gathering places like Cafe Vesuvio and City Lights Bookstore.

ReBlog: New School Dandy Profile J. Elquist

fine-and-dandy

J.Elquist

Self-explanatory… from Fine and Dandy

Over the past several months we have been introduced to many amazing people in the virtual word of blogs and social networking. With this post we continue a regular series of profiles of New School Dandies. This week we feature blogger/designer JD Elquist.

Where did you grow up? Wherever the Hells Angels took me.

Where do you live now? West Village in Manhattan.

Where did you go to school? The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in San Francisco.

What’s your occupation? I run a men’s style blog and design men’s wear. Both can be seen at http://www.jelquist.com/. I am also Editor-in-Chief of SIR Magazine, which is set to debut soon.

When did you establish your personal style? Was there a pivotal moment? How has it changed? Costume consumed my childhood. One day I was Batman, the next day I was Robin. I wore the mask of whatever role I was playing that day. It’s the same today. My look has one thematic thread running through it, but may vary depending on what I have to accomplish that day. My pivotal moment was when I started shopping for timeless pieces rather than adhering to trends. My look is ephemeral, but solid; while trends are fleeting.

How would you describe your style? I wouldn’t, it would describe me.

What are your sources of inspiration? The places I have been and the people I have met.

Who is your style icon? Gianni Agnelli, he wore a wristwatch over his cuff and work boots with a business suit. Mr. Agnelli founded personal style.

What are your preferred dandy reading materials? My favorite is WWD/Men’s.

What is your favorite clothing article or accessory? White pocket square – man’s best friend.

Where is your favorite or dream vacation spot? You know it’s funny, I live in it.

Tell us the best kept secret in your city. The highline park in Meatpacking. Awe inspiring.

At which establishments would you consider yourself a regular? Esperanto Café, it’s my second home.

What would you be doing ten years from now? Coming up with new dreams to actualize.

What is your current obsession? Blogging and ice cold sunsets.

Currently inspired by? My team: Jeremy, Bradley, Nick, and John. I would be nothing without them.

Currently annoyed with? Parades, New Yorkers love their parades.

What else do you want to tell us? It’s just the beginning.

I have been thinking more and more that I wish I went to Amherst pre 60′s. The swag in New England was at its peak, so Unabashedly Prep filled with so much Ivy Style. As I mentioned in Amherst Rugby, the swag at Amherst was so wet. There are a few remnants of the timeless New England swagger, there are two kids I can think of off the top of my head. I mean, most ppl own the boat shoes, a couple chinos. They try but they dont put it together like ppl used to. I look at the sports photos in the gym that date back to 1910, golfers in plus fours, tennis teams in blazers and v neck sweaters, and I see what was. I compare this with the chicks going to parties in sweatpants and t shirts and I wonder where we lost it. I ran across this pic from the tailgate at an Amherst football game from ’58 from Life Magazine on Ivy Style. The assembly of pics from New England Colleges and Universities is amazing, so fresh and so prep. If we take that style and put it on someone with a bit of confidence and a bit of edge, the game will change.

And to make us even more progressive, look at the older black couple in the photo. As Jim Jones would say “for the HOOD, we iiiiiiiiiiiin”

Look to the past for insights on the future.

ReBlog: The Driver x The Satorialist

One of my favorite encounters on this book tour was my driver in San Francisco.

As you can see he was very elegant and practically oozed self-confidence, dignity and pride in his work.

I love people who show pride in their work, regardless of the job.

This man’s car was spotless, his shoes were shined and he knew exactly where he was going. He wasn’t dressed like that for me, he had no idea who I was, this was just another day and just another ride done in his own stylish way.

I’ve said this so many times before, and recently in the intro of my book. Even though this blog is about fashion I don’t really think about fashion when I look at this photo. I think about how he is communicating his sense of pride and self-worth; not by how expensive his clothes are but by how he wears his clothes, his posture and his politeness. This man is pure style.

This is what style is about. Its about self confidence and pride, about taking care of yourself and commanding respect. There are many roads that lead to being a gentleman, one of them starts with looking like one.

Common x BKcircus

Okay not really but when I see this all I see is BKc. The video is dope and the circus imagery is ridiculous. Shouts to the BKc for hoping on this landmine early and making it their own. I have officially been branded, I cant see Circus without seeing Brooklyn before it.

Not to mention, this was one of my favorite songs off the album if not my fav and that look suits common quite well if you ask tha Giant.

Shouts to Max G. over at WineANDbowTies for this one
